Fabric Report-Week 27 & Show & Tell

Is it July already?  OMG!  Where did the month of June go so fast.  It's been quite a while since I've blogged and I need to catch up on what's been happening in my sewing room.

First off, I attended a retreat in June and finished some quilts and tops.  First was the modern Square in a Square that I started last year. It is now quilted and bound, Yes, 1 UFO off the list.

And the back

Then I worked on my Stars and Stripes QOV and finished the top.,  It just needs a backing and a presentation pillowcase.

Another old UFO that has been sitting in my unfinished pile for several years finally got a little TLC. These blocks were made and given to me by my friend, Joan who didn't want them.  This is Joan's Stars. Really original, right? lol  They are made with stretchy homespun and were not a consistent size.  I bought fabrics for sashing and borders to finish it. The colors do not show up well on the computer, but the new fabric really enhances the look of the stars.  Two of the blocks were not made with homespuns, so they stand out a bit more. I'm debating if I should do some creative camouflage on one in particular.  Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the results.

The "Snow Friends" got it's final borders to complete the size I want, but there are still some hand embellishments that need to happen before it's ready to be quilted.

Here are my current usage numbers up-to-date.
Fabric Report - Week 27
Fabric Added - O
Fabric Used:  11.25 yds
Fabric Added YTD - O
Fabric Used YTD - 56.75 yds
Net used in 2015 -  56.75 yds

Disappearing 9-Patch
The disappearing 9-patch was to be my NewFO for January, but I didn't get my blocks from our exchange group until Feb.  Then I actually didn't get started on this until March at my retreat, so I'm going to link up with Cat Patches March NewFO linky for March.

This brings me up-to-date on my GID, I hope.  I plan to be busy quilting a few other tops that were donated to help the hand quilters get them all finished by our deadline.

Get It Done

March has come and gone.  Boy, where did the month go?  It's time again to see what was accomplished on my Get It Done list for Judy's Challenge.

1.       Assemble Easy Street into a top with borders - not done.  These are still on my design wall waiting to be put into rows.
2.       Cut sashing & cornerstones for Joan’s stars - nope. I had good intentions, but still haven't got all the pieces cut yet.
3.       Quilt 1 or 2 QOV - finished one
4.      Make 4 pillowcases - done.  Actually made 8 in March.
5.     Make 10 string blocks - did 20 (so Apr. is covered too)
6.    Finish prep on applique block - not quite done
7.    Put together D9P blocks into a top - done
Four out of 7 isn't stellar, but it is some progress at least.  Maybe I should limit my list to fewer things so I could get them all done!  But that would not be as challenging nor as much fun.    Pictures later today.
P
So here's what I hope to get done in April in the sewing arena
1. Finish Easy Street top
2. Finish Joan's Stars top
3. Quilt the D9P quilt
4. Bind the D9P
5. Make 4 pillowcases for the St.LCH kids
6. Make 10 string blocks -oh yeah, I already did April's back in March!!  yipee - Done

Get It Done - January Results & February Goals

Well, how did I do on my January list of GID goals?   In spite of being out of commission for 2 weeks with a bug, I didn't do too bad.

Here's what I wanted to get done in Jan.
1. Cut sashing and cornerstones for Joan's Stars - didn't get it done
2. Complete Step 7 and Step 8 on Easy Street - made progress, but still need some of both Blocks A (5) & Block B (3) - I did a lot of sewing on this project since I was behind and was playing catch-up.
3. Make 10 string blocks to add to my 70 - finished 5
4. Quilt one QOV quilt - YES, I finished it and even got it bound!  You can see it HERE.

Not a very good showing, huh? but maybe February will be better -- I've got to stay healthy!!

In February my GID goals will be:
1.  Finish blocks for Easy Street and put together the top (UFO).  Picture HERE
2.  Finish binding another QOV (UFO)
3.  Make a set of pillowcases for a gift
4.  Get the Edyta Sitar's Botanical Beauty block all prepped to start appliqueing. Pattern HERE.
5.  Cut sashing & cornerstones for Joan's stars - (UFO)

I do think this challenge has helped me focus on specific projects instead of jumping around from project to project so much.

Stop on by Patchwork Times to see what others have done this month.  I'm also linking up with Carrie at A Passion for Applique for finishing up my UFOs.

    Weekend Quilt Show

This weekend is Loose Threads Quilt Show in St. Peters, MO.  I spent the whole day at the show contributing to the vendors and helping the economy recover more quickly.  Thank goodness I was volunteering as a "white glove" helper answering questions and showing backsides of quilts, which kept me away from the vendors for a few hours. There were some great new out-of-state vendors plus many of our great local shops and businesses represented.  It was difficult to pass up fabric that was priced right and so beautifully displayed.  I did find a few fabrics needed for the sashing and border on Joan's star blocks I recently received.    I'm going back tomorrow to work and might find more "have to have" fabrics -- you know just fabrics needed to finish up some of my many UFO's, right?
Outer Border stripe, blue sashing, lime cornerstones
I'm not looking forward to my stash report tomorrow.  Maybe I'll send my report before I go to the show, then what I bring home won't count for a whole week.    Maybe I can use it quickly and it will go right back out!!  Whew!, I feel much better. I'll take my camera and try to get a few shots of the winners.
