On The Needles - Feb 14, 2014

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone out in Blogland.  Hope your day includes chocolate, flowers and spending time with the ones you love.  We are getting more snow to go with our chocolates and roses. My sweetie and I had our Valentine's dinner last night to avoid the rush and since he doesn't like to make reservations it worked out perfectly.  A day early means no crowds or reservations needed.

This week I've made a little more progress on my 1st sock.  The leg now measures almost 5 inches which means I'm getting closer to the heel section which scares me. The good thing is that I'm starting to feel more comfortable handling all those 5 little needles.  Aren't they pretty and colorful?.  They are the 6" Harmony Wood Double Pointed Needle Set from Knit Picks.  They are so light weight and the yarn slides easily but not too much that I'm worried about losing stitches off the tips as I do with metal ones.

I'm really enjoying learning something new and very happy with my progress so far and I love the way this yarn feels--so soft and spongy.  Can't wait to get it far enough to try on.  Sure hope they fit.

What are you working on today?  If you have some time, go on over to Patchwork Times and see what others are working on.

  1. Your sock is coming along great! Your yarn is so pretty... and your needles, too. I have found several youtube videos that were helpful when I turned the heel the first few times. Happy Knitting!

  2. I'm so proud of you!!!!! Your socks are looking so pretty Dar!!! Love your yarn :) If you can, have someone nearby who has made socks when you do your first heel. I had to tear mine out three times and then my friend Joanne sat with me and showed me what I was doing wrong. After that, I was good to go!

  4. Don't let the heel scare you! I avoided socks because of tem, and when I actually tried them... Piece of cake! Just go slow, read the pattern carefully, and you will be fine! Remember, everything in knitting is a variation of either the knit or the purl stitch, and you can do those, so you can do anything! Harmony needles are my favorites too. I have the full sets of 6", and the interchangeable circulars too. The %' set is on my wish list too.

    1. Thanks for your encouraging words, Sandie. Don't know what the o/o' set is. BTW, you are a noreply on your email, in case you didn't realize it.

  7. Very pretty yarn. Wish I could help you with the heel. I could come and crochet it for you, but that's about it. I didn't even realize it was VD until John said, "Oh, happy valentine's day" about 8pm while we were watching the olympics. How romantic.
